Weighty Way is the fortieth-fifth level in the games Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, as well as the third level in the Cliff world of Donkey Kong Island. It is preceded by Prehistoric Path and followed by Boulder Roller.

Overview[]

In this level, there are many pairs of platforms connected by ropes and pulley systems. To progress, the Kongs must manipulate these platforms by using good timing and relieving or putting weight on these places. At some occasions, they must relieve weight by defeating enemies or destroying obstacles over platforms. Sometimes, the primates must also put weight on platforms by clinging on their turf-covered undersides. The enemies in the level include Tiki Buzzes, Skellirexes and Flaming Tiki Buzzes.

Walkthrough[]

At the beginning, go left and ground-pound nearby the cactus to get the first Puzzle Piece. Go past the DK Barrel and Tiki Buzzes to the right and jump onto the first pair of pulley platforms. Make the right side rise so you can jump over to the second pair of pulley platforms. There, defeat the Skellirex on the right side and return to the left to weigh it down. When the right side rises enough, jump from it and climb on the turf-covered ceiling to reach the letter "K" to the left. Jump across the crumbling platforms below, then get across another pair of pulley platforms and more Tiki Buzzes and Skillerex ahead. On the solid ledge following the crumbling ones, you will see a barrel cannon. Ignore it and roll-jump below the barrel and to the right, reaching the second Puzzle Piece before falling into an autofire barrel below it. Shoot upward with the previous barrel and eventually you will land before a checkpoint.

Go past the checkpoint and bounce on the thin and springy platform ahead to reach the letter "O" and land on another pair of pulley platforms. Get across the pulley platforms. It possible to blow on the Flaming Tiki Buzz nearby to extinguish its flames for safety. Moving on, some pulley platforms balanced by heavy rocks in the background will eventually break if you stand on them for too long, dropping the platforms you are stepping on. Use the springy platform to bounce over Flaming Tiki Buzzes as you go. After some Tiki Buzzes and crumbling platforms, you soon will reach a pulley platform that moves another platform with covered-turf underside. Quickly, before using the Kongs' weight to drop the platform, jump into the upper-right ledge first to enter a Bonus Room. In the room, shoot back and forth between two barrel cannons, while avoiding an autofire barrel in the middle, to collect all eighty bananas and two Banana Coins within thirty seconds and reveal the third Puzzle Piece.

After the Bonus Room, weigh down the first platform and cling onto the turf-covered surface above. Hang on as the second platform moves back to the right, then climb over to the barrel cannon and drop into it. Shoot upward to reach the second checkpoint. Go right and over the Flaming Tiki Buzz, and ride the platform down the track to the bottom. That platform will not break down. At the end, go past the springy platform, DK Barrel and Skellirex, and ground-pound nearby the cactus to reveal a barrel cannon. Use the new barrel to reach the background area. From where you land, go left and defeat the Skellirex below, then ground-pound close by the cactus to reveal the fourth Puzzle Piece. Next, bounce on the springy platform to the left and get onto the pulley platforms above. Weigh down the right side, then jump to the left and again to a third platform farther left. Use that one to reach the letter "N" on its very high platform. From here, go all the way right to the higher ledge with a cactus on it. Ground-pound close by it and use the pulley platforms to reach the new barrel cannon that emerges, and shoot back to the foreground with it.

Upon landing, go right on the pulley platform, use the springy platform to reach another barrel cannon, then shoot upward through more barrel cannons to reach the third checkpoint high above. To the right, bounce onto the left side of the next pulley platforms. Jump to the cracked rock on the other side and pound on it three times to break it and weigh down the platform. Bounce back to the left side to weigh it down, then jump over the spikes on the suspended block to the right to continue. Weigh down the next platform to reach the lower ledge, then go right and bounce upward and grab onto the turf-covered underside of the large pulley platform above. Weigh it down to the bottom, then drop into the barrel cannon below. As the platform above retracts, shoot to the autofire barrel which will launch you upward, timing it so you land on top of that platform next to a DK Barrel. Ride it to the right end again and go past the Skellirex in front of you to continue. Use the barrel cannon to the right to reach another pulley platform at the top of the screen. Weigh down the right side, then jump to the left and use the next barrel cannon to reach a new area high above, next to another Skellirex.

Up there, head right to see another platform with a turf-covered underside. Hang from the grassy turf briefly to get it moving, then jump back to the left ledge and then on top of that same pulley platform. Collect the letter "G" there, then ride down on the platform to the very end of its track. There will be two barrel cannons you can jump to here, one below and one to the right. Roll-jump to the one to the right, and shoot on the turf-covered right wall to get the fifth and final Puzzle Piece. Be sure to cling as you make impact to the grassy turf or the Kongs will fall down into the abyss below. Now climb down and drop to the solid ground below safely. Then, just go right to the Slot Machine Barrel and touch it to complete the level.

Trivia[]

  • The main theme song for this level, and the Cliff level Precarious Plateau, can be unlocked in the Cliff Music of the Music Gallery in the Extras menu of both games by defeating Thugly once in the boss level Thugly's Highrise. But the theme is mistakenly named as Boulder Roller, the same name of the level following the current one in the Cliff world. However, the theme song featured only in mostly of the Boulder Roller level is a different one and not unlockable in the Music Gallery of both games.
