Trouble Bugs are a race of living fireballs that pursue Jumpman. They were background antagonists found in the original Donkey Kong game for Arcade. They would later appear in the game Donkey Kong '94 for Game Boy.
Overview[]
Donkey Kong[]
In the game Donkey Kong, Trouble Bugs usually chase Jumpman up the level, following his path. At the beginning of the level 25m, they jump out of an oil drum after it is hit by a barrel throw by Donkey Kong Sr., catching fire in the process. While pursuing the hero, they also display the ability of climbing ladders. Jumpman making contact with one will cause the player to lose an extra life. Because of this, it is advisable for the player just to avoid them. However, if the player is able to collect a Hammer, Jumpman can easily defeat them by using the temporary effect from the tool. Some Trouble Bugs are also found in the level 75m of the same game.
Donkey Kong '94[]
Trouble Bugs also appear in the game Donkey Kong for Game Boy, being enemies featured inside other levels besides 25m and 75m. Their behavior and weakness are not different from the original game.
Super Smash Bros. series[]
Trouble Bugs are enemies in the battle stage 75m of the game Super Smash Bros. Brawl, stage also featured in later games of the same series. They will burn anyone who touches it, and will send the fighter flying in the opposite direction that they touched the Trouble Bug on. Their movements are very similar to the ones seen in the games Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong '94.
Trivia[]
- Contrary to their name, Trouble Bugs are not bugs at all, but instead small crawling fireballs.
