Troff is a giant pink pig and a supportive character in the game Donkey Kong 64. He and Scoff help the Kongs to access boss arenas inside every level, except for Hideout Helm and King Kruiser II.

Overview

On each of the first seven levels of the game, there are some locations of special portals with pictures of Troff and Scoff on them. A playable Kong can enter this portal at any point. Inside, there is a room with a large door and a number on it in the background, and Troff and Scoff are both standing on platforms on either side of the door. This location also possesses a Tag Barrel, and a platform on the other end of the room with pads with each of the five Kongs' faces on them. By stepping onto them, they will show how many bananas the heroes have given.

This area's function is to provide access to the boss battle on the other side of the door. The door is only open by the Kongs delivering certain number of bananas specified on the door by standing on the banana pad in the room. This action will immediately feed to Scoff the total of bananas collected by the primates inside the current level. When the Kong runs out of bananas or the number on the door reaches zero and vanishes, Scoff will always belch and slam down on his platform, and elevate Troff's platform. After the number reaches zero, Troff will be able to reach the the key and turn it, opening the door. Afterwards, the door will flash between the five playable Kongs' faces before stopping on one. The door will then open, the torches in the room will go out and magic sparkles will appear and circle around. After that, the chosen Kong may enter the door and battle against the boss. If any primate apart from the one whose face is on the door approaches it, the door will shut.

After the heroes defeat the boss and claim their Boss Key, all Troff and Scoff's portals will vanish from the current level for good.

Requirements for Boss Battles

After each new level, the number of required bananas will increase, and the Kong chosen to enter the door and fight the boss will change. Only the total of bananas collected inside the current level by the main characters is considered when feeding Scoff, and their colors are ignored.

Aftermath

During the regular ending cutscene of the game, after the Kongs have defeated King K. Rool, both Troff and Scoff are seen around the DK Island alongside other characters. They are also featured during the special ending cutscene on some bloppers.

Trivia

  • Troff shares some similarities in physical appearance with Wizpig, the pig antagonist from the games Diddy Kong Racing and Diddy Kong Racing DS.
  • In promotional renders of both Troff and Scoff, there were shown having nipple rings, however, in the final renders, the characters nipple rings are removed for an unknown reason. The size of their nipples was also decreased.[citation needed]
  • Even if the Scoff and Troff's portals disappear permanently from the levels after their respective bosses are beaten for once in the game Donkey Kong 64, the same arenas are still accessible by other means. By collecting at least ten Banana Fairies, the player will unlock the option Bosses in the Mystery menu where it is possible to battle each of the main bosses of the game again for unlimited times.
  • The games Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze feature Tutorial Pigs, allies of the Kongs and mainly responsible for marking checkpoints inside levels.
