Artwork of a Toothberry from Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Toothberries are enemies found in Donkey Kong Country Returns that try to bite Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong and take away one heart of health on contact. They are only found in their own level in the Ruins as well as a level in the Forest. They are very aggressive and will jump out of walls and panels in the floor. Red Toothberries are larger, less common, and jump higher than their blue counterparts. They are slightly harder to beat than regular enemies due to the fact that they jump around making it harder to land on them. Toothberries usually attack in large groups. Acks are another form of Toothberries who are colored yellow and are found only in stacks of five. Upon seeing Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong they will topple over in an attempt to bite the heroes. This leaves them very vulnerable with their mouths stuck in the ground. With all five of them lying there it is rather easy for Donkey Kong to earn several Banana Coins by bouncing over all of them.

  • Blue: The weakest form of Toothberry. They only require one jump to defeat.
  • Red: Larger, more aggressive, higher jumpers and requiring two jumps to defeat.
  • Yellow: Only appear stacked in groups of 5. Their actual name is the Ackstack (the group of 5) and the Ack (a member of an Ackstack).
  • Cageberries: Invincible and trapped in a cage. If you pound the ground and jump onto the base of the cage, you can get a boost into the air.
