Donkey Kong Wiki

Donkey Kong using the Spinning Kong move as seen in the game Super Smash Bros. Melee for Gamecube.

Spinning Kong is Donkey Kong's Up Special Move in all games of the Super Smash Bros. series. This move involves DK spinning his arms to float upward and forward for a few seconds.

Spinning Kong is best used for a horizontal recovery, though it does go slightly vertical. It is not very reliable, even though its horizontal distance goes almost as far as Meta Knight's Mach Tornado, because of its poor vertical rise.

When used on the ground, the Spinning Kong can be used in a fashion similar to Bowser's Whirling Fortress: it can be used out of the shield or as a disruptive tactic. The Spinning Kong's first hit, in which Donkey Kong extends his fist to charge up the spin, has decent knockback. It also has some invincibility frames when it first comes out, making Donkey Kong resistant to knockback.

The Spinning Kong move has not yet appeared in any non-Super Smash Bros. games, even though its function to twirl forward is very similar to Dixie Kong's Helicopter Twirl, and to a lesser extent, Tiny's own Pony Tail Whirl move.
