Pompy the Sea Lion, usually known as Pompy, The Presumptuous is supporting antagonist in the video game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze who serves as an ally of Lord Fredrik. He is a giant sea lion and one of the five generals of Snowmads, is the boss of Lost Mangroves, and is overall the first boss.
Biography[]
The Kongs fight him in Lost Mangroves, the first island in the game. The Kongs encounter Pompy in a circus where he is seen performing tricks for his fellow Snowmads. Pompy then confronts the Kongs himself and begins the battle.
Like all bosses in the game, Donkey Kong must deal nine hits in order to defeat him. He'll start the battle by diving at the Kongs. The Kongs must jump on his back to damage him but must be careful not to land on his spiky helmet. Once he is hit, he retreats to the water and throws green fish at the Kongs, who can either be defeated or avoided. He'll also throw urchins as well, which the Kongs must dodge.
After taking three hits, he will get angry and go into this second phrase. In this phrase, he'll begin to roll around the arena, which the Kongs must avoid. After being hit, he will call in a group of penguins to ambush the Kongs from the water, with Pompy jumping out of the the water at the end. However, he'll slip up and be stunned, leaving him open for an attack.
After taking three more hits, he'll get angrier and move on to his final phrase. Here, he'll summon three penguins to serve as backup and dive with him. Once he retreats to the waters, he'll throw in a big purple fish instead of the green ones that takes three hits to defeat. Pompy will also begin to jump around in the arena, showing off to his Snowmads. He will, however, slip up and be stunned when performing his final jump.
When nine hits are dealt, Pompy is finally defeated and is launched away by Donkey Kong. After that, he is not seen again for the rest of the game.
Appearance[]
Pompy is a giant, light purple sea lion with a Viking helmet on his head and a light underbelly. He also has the icon of the Snowmads on his body.
Boss Battle[]
Pompy begins the battle by belly-sliding across the arena. His back is exposed during this time, so you can jump on him. Once you score a hit, he falls into the water and tosses three green fish into the arena. These fish bounce around and can be defeated with one hit. If you don't jump on them, they eventually fall back into the water. When all the fish are gone, Pompy leaps back into the arena and resumes sliding. After being hurt again, Pompy gets angry and sends two green fish and one urchin into the arena. The urchin can't be defeated without Cranky Kong's pogo-jump, so unless you went into battle with Cranky Kong, it's best to just avoid the urchin. Once the arena is cleared, Pompy slides again. As soon as you attack him for the third time, Pompy gets angry and turns into a lovely shade of maroon.
For phase two, Pompy rolls though the arena, during which he can't be jumped on. After finishing the roll, he goes back to sliding. After being hit again, he summons several Tucks to help him out. These Tucks jump out from behind the arena and try to ram into you. They pause for a moment after landing, leaving them open to attack. Eventually, Pompy himself joins them. Unlike his goons, he follows you. Pompy will be stunned upon impact, allowing you to score another blow. Another roll and another hit later, Pompy once again blows his stack, gets angrier and turns bright red.
For phase three, Pompy calls in three Tucks to slide through the arena with him. If he and his cronies reach the other side, they fly up the slope and soar through the air to the other side. When Pompy is hit again, he tosses two Gordos and one urchin into the arena. The Gordo take three hits each. Following up, Pompy jumps into the arena and leaps around trying to crush you. The fourth time he leaps, he'll stun himself again and be vunerable to a stomp attack. Pompy then brings in his loyal minions again in a last-ditch effort to win. But since this is the last hit, he can take, more likely it's YOU who will win.
Upon landing the ninth and final blow, you will have the opportunity to repeatedly punch Pompy by mashing the buttons shown on screen, eventually sending the seal flying and ending the battle.
