The Mermaid is a supportive character who appears in level Gloomy Galleon of the game Donkey Kong 64. She rewards Tiny Kong with a Golden Banana after she recovering her stolen pearls.

Appearance[]

This mermaid has blonde hair with a silver tiara on her head. She has pink lips and blue eyes with her eyeshadow to match them. She also has a cyan tail with a seashell bra to match it and wears a necklace complete with a shiny pendant on her neck.

Overview[]

The Mermaid can be found deep underwater inside her cone shell-like palace, located below the lighthouse in the level Gloomy Galleon. Only Tiny Kong is capable of entering the palace by using her Mini Monkey move and shrinking in size. After meeting the Kong, the Mermaid says her pearls have been stolen by the Kremlings and she stays crying because of that.

Outside, Tiny Kong must use her Mini Monkey move again and enter a large treasure chest to find the pearls which are inside of five clams. After retrieving all five pearls, Tiny can shrink her size again and re-enter the Mermaid's throne room to return the pearls and to be rewarded a Golden Banana. By speaking to the Mermaid again, she informs Tiny that she is concerned they may get stolen by the Kremlings again.

During the special ending cutscene of Donkey Kong 64, the Mermaid reappears, alongside Tiny and Candy Kong, while two Kritters stare at them, apparently charmed by their beauty.

Trivia[]

Mermaid Statue

Banjo & Kazooie swimming next to a statue resembling the Mermaid carrying a bowl labeled pi (π), as seen in the game Banjo-Tooie.

  • In the game Banjo-Tooie, also developed by Rare, the developer of the game Donkey Kong 64, there is a group of four statues resembling the Mermaid. They are found around a small structure at the center of the sunken city of Atlantis inside the level Jolly Roger's Lagoon. By Banjo & Kazooie shooting eggs in the lettered bowls (labeled sigma (Σ), delta (Δ), pi (π) and omega (Ω)) that they carry in certain sequence, it will open the entrance of the Temple of the Fishes nearby. The unique sequence of six symbols is engraved above the door of the temple.
