The Lightfishes[1], also known as Glower the Tadpole, are aquatic Animal Buddies that appear in the game Donkey Kong 64. They illuminate the Kongs' path underwater.

Lightfishes are large tadpoles carrying flashlights and found only in the level Gloomy Galleon. They light up dark areas inside sunken ships in the bottom of Gloomy Galleon by following each playable Kong, and helping them to find at least a single Golden Banana or a Bonus Stage leading to the collectable.

Lightfishes are not controllable by the player, and they do not follow the heroes outside the ship hulls. They cannot be harmed by enemies or hazards either.

  • Considering being possible for the player to find only one Lightfish per time in the game Donkey Kong 64, it is unclear if there is a single Lightfish or multiple ones in the game.
  • "Glower the Tadpole" is an unofficial name for the Lightfishes adopted by the players of the game Donkey Kong 64.
  • The Lightfishes' role of illuminating dark areas inside water is similar to the one of Glimmer the Anglerfish, an aquatic Animal Buddy who appears in the game Donkey Kong Country 2.
