Jungle Jam

The background of the location of the Jungle Jam competition from the game DK: King of Swing for GBA.

The Jungle Jam is a competition taking place during the events of the game DK: King of Swing. The tournament is about collecting DK Medals, and there are also two special modes in the game named after the same tournament.

Story[]

At the beginning of the game, the Jungle Jam is a tournament announced by Cranky Kong, where participants would search for DK Medals, and whoever gets more medals would be declared the winner and the Jungle Hero. On the previous day to the competition, Cranky and Donkey Kong are present in the location of the tournament opening, next to a barrel full of DK Medals. The old ape is explaining about the Jungle Jam tournament to his grandson, and Cranky says how the DK Medals are important, and they must be guarded. However, King K. Rool appears suddenly using a small hovercraft and steals the barrel of medals, mocking the primates and declaring himself the Jungle Hero. Because the tournament cannot take place without the DK Medals, Cranky asks Donkey to recover all stolen medals.

During the game, K. Rool can be seen flying away over the world maps once, dropping down DK Medals in some stages. In most of the regular stages, the player can find single bronze and silver medals hidden inside wooden barrels. And after defeating each boss once, the player is rewarded with single gold medals.

At the end, Donkey Kong is able to reach the airship K. Kruizer III and face King K. Rool. After the Kremling king is defeated twice, Donkey uses the small hovercraft to escape from the exploding airship, and transport the barrel of DK Medals back to the location of the Jungle Jam tournament. There, Cranky congratulates Donkey for recovering the medals, declaring him the Jungle Hero and announcing the opening of the competition, while the other Kongs are also celebrating.

Special Modes[]

In the game DK: King of Swing, there are two special modes called Single-Player Jungle Jam and Multiplayer Jungle Jam, playable in single player and multiplayer (via a Game Link Cable[1] between GBA consoles), respectively. During both modes, the player chooses a character and competes against other three characters in events, special time and score minigames. The player can set new time and score records by clearing the courses of the events. New bronze, silver and gold DK Medals can also be earned by the player winning the same courses in third, second and first place, respectively. The events include:

  • Climbing Race: time event composed by five courses where characters race against each other by climbing and trying to reach the goal at the top first.
  • Obstacle Race: time event composed by four courses where characters climb panels in order to reach the top first while moving through obstacles, such as crates, moving panels and barrel cannons.
  • Attack Battle: score event composed by three courses where characters earn points by using charged attacks and successfully hitting each other within a time limit of forty seconds.
  • Barrel Blast: score event composed by two courses where characters climb panels and earn points by using charged attacks to destroy multiple barrels within forty seconds.
  • Color Capture: score event of a single course where characters move around the panels and earn points by touching and switching the panels to their respective colors, within a time limit of forty seconds. This event is unlocked after the player has collected all twenty-four DK Medals in the Adventure mode.
