Guerrillas (ドソキーユング, Dosokī Yungu in Japan) and Chained Kongs (バーレルコング, Barrel Kong in Japan) are two regular enemy types from the game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for Super Family Computer/Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Both enemy types bear some resemblance to members of the Kong Family.

Physical Appearance[]

Guerrillas and Chained Kongs resemble gorillas that have shackles around their arms, legs and heads, and large weights chained to their ankles, presumably due to them being enslaved by the Smithy Gang. They look very similar to Donkey Kong, only with shackles and without a necktie.

Properties[]

In the game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, both enemy types have high health and physical power, and they can use the Boulder Toss special attack.

Guerrillas[]

Guerrillas only appear as enemies in the Forest Maze, always alongside Buzzers, and, sometimes, also Amanitas. Guerrillas have 135 health points (HP), 42 attack points, and 32 defense points, and they are weak against fire elemental attacks. After being defeated, Guerrillas drop 8 coins, they are worth 8 experience points, and they can drop an Able Juice item. Their line after receiving the Psychopath special attack, Mallow's spell used for revealing the number of health points of enemies and reading their thoughts, is "Don't confuse me with someone else!".

Chained Kongs[]

Being stronger versions of Guerrillas, Chained Kongs are first encountered in the Barrel Volcano, always alongside Vomers, Pyrospheres, or Oerlikons and Armored Ants. Chained Kongs have 355 health points (HP), 150 attack points, and 80 defense points, and they are weak against ice elemental attacks, but strong against fire attacks. By defeating one of them, the player earns 8 coins and 35 experience points, and the enemies can drop a Max Mushroom item. Their quote after receiving the Psychopath spell is "A tad warm, isn't it?!".

Trivia[]

  • The name "Guerrilla" is a wordplay on "gorilla" and "guerrilla warfare"[1].
  • In the game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, the Guerrillas' post-Psychopath spell quote, "Don't confuse me with someone else!", could indicate that they are aware of their resemblance to Donkey Kong.
  • In the game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, it is possible to find a single Guerrilla outside battles in the Bowser's Keep, during the second visit of the place. At the section of numbered doors, if the player randomly picks one of the two doors leading to a specific action course, they can reach the room of the enemy after going through two rooms of obstacles. Inside the room, the player must control Mario to traverse some elevated platforms while avoiding multiple Barrels thrown by the Guerrilla (see Gallery section above). After the player reaching the enemy at the top, next to the door, the Guerrilla will run away scared by dropping down from the platforms and leaving the room. This encounter is a reference to the original Donkey Kong game for Arcade, where Donkey Kong Sr. would throw barrels towards the Mario's path.
    • Also at the same section of numbered doors of the Bowser's Keep in the same game, if the player randomly picks one of the two doors leading to a specific battle course, they can eventually fight against a Chained Kong, alongside two Geckits.
