Not to be confused with the final boss stage from the game Donkey Kong Country or the first world from the games Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Land 2.

Gangplank Galleon, or Gang-Plank Galleon, is the name of King K. Rool's ship. The ship appears throughout multiple games of the Donkey Kong franchise.

Game Appearances[]

Donkey Kong Country[]

The ship debuted in the game Donkey Kong Country, as the stage for the final boss battle. It is where King K. Rool stored the stolen banana hoard during the events of the game. Donkey and Diddy Kong traveled throughout the large Donkey Kong Island in search of their hoard, but it is only until beating Chimp Caverns that the ship is accessible. It is possible to notice the galleon getting closer to the island with each completed world. However, it is less evident in the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country due to how the screen in the overworld map of Donkey Kong Island is zoomed in.

Donkey Kong Land[]

In Donkey Kong Country's Game Boy sequel, Donkey Kong Land, the Gang-Plank Galleon, called Gangplank Galleon Ahoy!, is the game's first world. The galleon is docked on the coast of Donkey Kong Island. The Kongs travel through the ship and nearby land as well to reach the end, where they fight the boss Wild Sting. Beating the boss allows the heroes to move on to Kremlantis.

Donkey Kong Country 2[]

The galleon serves as the first world in the game Donkey Kong Country 2. Diddy and Dixie Kong travel through the galleon, which is beached on the coast of Crocodile Isle. The ship holds many stages, and houses many enemies, not to mention Krow, a very large bird boss living at the top of a mast. Beating this area gives access to the Crocodile Cauldron. In the GBA version of Donkey Kong Country 2, the world map is completely redesigned. Similar to Donkey Kong Land 2, the ship has crashed on the right side of the Crocodile Isle, instead of the left side in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of Donkey Kong Country 2.

Donkey Kong Land 2[]

In the game Donkey Kong Land 2, Kaptain K. Rool raises the galleon and the rest of Crocodile Isle from the sea. It is somewhat undamaged from being underwater, and it is later sunken again by the Kongs, this time for good. The area possesses the same stages from Donkey Kong Country 2. After defeating the boss, the heroes can move forward to the Krem Cauldron. Like in the GBA version of Donkey Kong Country 2, the galleon is located on the right side of the Crocodile Isle, instead of the left side in the SNES version.

Donkey Kong 64[]

In the game Donkey Kong 64, inside the water cover of the Gloomy Galleon stage, what is believed to be the remains of the same galleon lie on the seabed ripped in half.[1] Despite all the decay and seaweed, Kaptain K. Rool's portraits and log book appear to be in good condition.

Other Appearances[]

Donkey Kong Country comic[]

The galleon, only referred to as "K. Rool's ship", also appeared in the Club Nintendo comic Donkey Kong Country. Like in the game of the same name, it served as the location for the fight between the Kongs and King K. Rool. Besides the latter, several other Kremlings can be seen on the ship.

Donkey Kong Country animated series[]

A possible counterpart for the Gang-Plank Galleon did appear in the Donkey Kong Country animated series. Here, the unnamed ship was owned by Kaptain Skurvy, instead of King K. Rool. During the animated series, the ship often met with disaster, such as being eaten by Junior the Giant Klaptrap in the episode "Booty and the Beast" and accidentally being blown up by General Klump in the Christmas-based episode "The Kongo Bongo Festival of Lights".

"King K. Rool's ship has dropped anchor near Donkey Kong's treehouse. Journey through the jungle and mountain highlands on your way to the gruesome galleon. The following pages examine the treacherous terrain in fine detail."
Nintendo Power Vol. 74, page 12
"K. Rool didn't suspect a thing - not a banana - as DK and Diddy hitched a ride on his Galleon, thus leading them to his secret hideout. On this first stage of their voyage the Kong brothers soon discover that all is not so familiar. Don't forget, this is Kremling territory now, where artic conditions rest comfortably alongsode humid jungle. Most disturbing of all though is that here pigs really can fly!"
Donkey Kong Land Nintendo Magazine System, page 8

Donkey Kong Country 2[]

"Diddy's first action takes place aboard K. Rool's scuttled flagship, Gangplank Galleon. Even though this hulk isn't seaworthy, it's still manned by a scurvy Kremling crew. You'll find lots of hooks and rigging to climb on here. You can also duck into the flooded cargo hold for more fun!"
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Instruction Booklet (SNES version), page 20
"Ever though it's half-suken, the once-proud flagship of Kaptain K. Rool's fleet still server as the first line of defense against any Kong rescue party."
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Player's Guide (SNES version), page 20
"Ahoy! Kaptain K. Rool's flagship, the Gangplank Galleon, has run aground off the coast of Crocodile Isle (okay, so he's a pirate, not a sailor). Her deck are awash with Kremling cutthroats, but you decide to investigate, just in case. Since this is your first time doing the hero thing, you might need some help finding your way. Donkey Kong managed to leave a trail of bananas as he was dragged off, so if you ever get turned around, follow the yellow fruit to the end of the stage. Aye! Ahrr!"
Nintendo Power Vol. 79 (SNES version), page 18
