Crowded Cavern is the thirtieth level in the games Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, as well as the fifth level in the Cave world of Donkey Kong Island. It is preceded by Mole Patrol and followed by The Mole Train.

Similar to Mole Patrol level, this level takes place in a cavern while riding a Rocket BarrelDonkey and Diddy Kong ride on this barrel throughout the level, flying between large rocks and boulders. However, the level's main obstacle is the Squeekly Family, a large group of Squeeklies seen around the whole level, who constantly try to fly into the Kongs. These Squeeklies include Purple Squeeklies that fly towards the heroes, Bobbin' Squeeklies that move up or down when approached, and the Mega Squeekly that can shoot dangerous sonic waves from its mouth. The Kongs cannot attack on the Rocket Barrel, so they have no choice but to avoid all the Squeeklies.

The level begins on a flat pathway leading to some wooden platforms that can be used to climb up to a higher area. A long and wooden bridge is in this area that breaks shortly after the Kongs walk on it. Before the bridge crumbles, quickly go back left to find the first Puzzle Piece. With the bridge destroyed, now the heroes must fall down to a lower area. In this area, go left to find a hidden entrance to the Bonus Room. In the room, use the bouncy and moving platform to collect all ninety-nine bananas and three Banana Coins within thirty seconds and reveal the second Puzzle Piece. After the Bonus Room, there is a passage leading to a Rocket Barrel. Bats surround the Kongs in this cave, but they are all sleeping. When the Kongs start out the Rocket Barrel, they wake up the Squeeklies, causing them to attack. As the primates begin their travel in the rocket, Purple Squeeklies race towards them, until they reach a narrower area with a trail of bananas and banana bunches. The trail curves in a V shape above a tall rock structure and ends with the letter "K" of the K-O-N-G Letters. At that point, the primates ride over some more boulders as the Mega Squeekly begins to chase them. The creature heads into the background as they head past a large waterfall. Follow the trail of bananas, banana bunches and Banana Coin in front of the waterfall to collect also the third Puzzle Piece. At the end of the group of bananas on the bottom row is the letter "O". Soon after this is the Tutorial Pig, who waits on a platform at the checkpoint.

In the area farther ahead of here, Bobbin' Squeeklies attack the Kongs by trying to fly in front of them while moving up or down vertically. At the same time, Purple Squeeklies dash towards the heroes as they fly, just as in the beginning of the rocket section. Eventually, the Kongs fly over some wooden boards. From underneath the boards, the Mega Squeekly tries to smash through them, sticking its head out of the ground. The fourth Puzzle Piece is at bottom of the screen just after the giant bat. As soon as the primates avoid it, the Mega Squeekly pops from the wooden boards on the ceiling. Next to the foe's head is the letter "N". Farther ahead are some rock obstacles that get in the way. Soon, the Mega Squeekly begins to chase the Kongs again. However, the Kongs manage to fly through a narrow passage, following a trail of banana bunches, before it can catch them. On the other side of the narrow passage, the primates can find many collectibles in a large group. The Tutorial Pig and the second checkpoint are just ahead.

After the checkpoint, the primates enter a slightly narrower area, where a crane sticks out of the background to get in the way. Soon after passing a banana bunch, the Kongs are attacked by the Mega Squeekly that begins to chase them. It shoots multiple sonic waves out of its mouth trying to hit the heroes' Rocket Barrel up and down the screen. In their pursuit, they come up to some collectibles in parallel sets. The second set of items possesses the fifth and final Puzzle Piece at the bottom of the screen. Just after the set of bananas, banana bunches and Banana Coins, the letter "G" is also at the bottom of the screen. Eventually, the Mega Squeekly charges and shoots a more powerful and lasting sonic beam that shoots across the screen, destroying a large boulder and revealing a large group of crystals in its place. If the primates get at the top of the screen and avoid the charged beam, the Mega Squeekly runs into the crystals, causing it to fall and become unconscious. Soon, the Kongs' Rocket Barrel drops them off next to the Slot Machine Barrel. If they hit this barrel, the level ends.

  • Banana Coins: 8 (counts 3 in the Bonus Room, does not count three or more consecutive jumps on enemies)

K-O-N-G Letters[]

  • K: As soon the Kongs are in pursuit with the Mega Squeekly, they must follow a trail of bananas. At the end of this trail is the letter "K".
  • O: Immediately after the third Puzzle Piece, the Kongs can head to the bottom row of bananas in a large group to find the letter "O".
  • N: Right after the fourth Puzzle Piece, the Mega Squeekly smashes through the ceiling. Next to its head at this point and above the screen is the letter "N".
  • G: Shortly after the fifth and final Puzzle Piece, the Kongs pass more parallel sets of collectibles. Right after the set of bananas, banana bunches and Banana Coin, the letter "G" is at the bottom of the screen. They must keep avoiding the Mega Squeekly's sonic waves while collecting the letter.

Puzzle Pieces[]

  • 1: The first Puzzle Piece is at the beginning of the level. After the Kongs walk on the bridge of wooden boards, they must quickly jump off to the left just as it begins to fall. The Puzzle Piece falls from the top of the screen if they avoid falling to the next area.
  • 2: After the primates fall through the wooden boards at the beginning of the level, they arrive in a lower area. Instead of heading towards the Rocket Barrel, they must travel left in the opposite direction to find a hidden opening to a Bonus Room. There, they need to obtain all ninety-nine bananas and three Bananas Coins in circles in the air by using a bouncy and moving platform. Once all of the items are collected within thirty seconds, a Puzzle Piece appears.
  • 3: Shortly before the first checkpoint, the Kongs come up to a large group of bananas and banana bunches. On the top row of bananas, the third Puzzle Piece can be found.
  • 4: When the Mega Squeekly breaks through the floor not too long after the first checkpoint, the Kongs can dive down to find the fourth Puzzle Piece after the giant bat and at the bottom of screen.
  • 5: After the second checkpoint and at the end of the level, when the Mega Squeekly begins to shoot sonic waves at the heroes, they will came across parallel sets of items. The final Puzzle Piece is at the bottom of the screen in the second set. The Kongs must keep avoiding the Mega Squeekly's attacks to collect the Puzzle Piece.

The puzzle of Crowded Cavern is of a strawberry against a light green background. When all of the pieces are found, the Squeekly Family artwork will be added to the Critters 1 Gallery of the Image Gallery in the Extras menu.
