Cageberries are essentially caged-up and indestructible versions of Toothberries, also enemies that appear in the games Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. They must be used by the player in order to reach high places.

Overview[]

Cageberries are only found in the level Itty Bitty Biters of the Ruins world of the Donkey Kong Island. They resemble regular Toothberies stuck inside small cages. However, they are still capable of moving over a single platform constantly. Their cages make these enemies immune against all harm, and the sharp top of the cages must be avoided by the Kongs to all costs. Cageberries are also immune against peanuts shot by Diddy Kong's Peanut Popguns.

Despite being enemies, Cageberries must be used in some situations as platforms. For that to happen, however, Donkey and/or Diddy Kong must ground-pound nearby, roll into them, or throw a barrel at them to turn over their cages and stun these enemies briefly. And then, by jumping on their overturned cage, the primates must pound twice to bury the cage and be throw upwards after a few instants. This way, the heroes can gain some height in order to reach higher places, containing switches, collectables, secret passages or Barrel Cannons.
