The Brothers Bear (クマのとも達, Kuma no tomo-tachi in Japan) is a group of bears who reside in the Northern Kremisphere in the games Donkey Kong Country 3 and Donkey Kong Land III.

At least one of the bears can be found in each world in the Northern Kremisphere. They help out the Kongs on their journey with tips and given items. By trading Items and helping them out, the Bears will often give Dixie and Kiddy Kong an item which another bear needs in return. Some of them also operate services, sometimes demanding some payment exchange for them.

Brothers Bear's Descriptions[]

Brother Bear Function
Bazaar Bazaar is the first Bear Dixie and Kiddy can encounter in Donkey Kong Country 3. His General Store is located at the initial area of the overworld map, nearby the Funky's Rentals. In order to progress in a Brothers Bear sidequest, a Shell can be bought for five Bear Coins. Later on in the game, a Mirror can also be purchased for fifty Bear Coins. In the Game Boy Advance of the same game, a Box of Chocolates can also be purchased for twenty Bear Coins.
Barnacle Barnacle is an old bear who lives in the world Lake Orangatanga of the Super Family Computer/Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of Donkey Kong Country 3 or the world Pacifica of the Game Boy Advance version of the same game. He is proud of his shell collection. Giving him the Shell purchased from Bazaar's General Store will result in him giving the player a Banana Bird he kept for a long time.
Barter Barter lives in the Northern Kremisphere overworld map, at southwest of the world K3 of Donkey Kong Country 3. The Mirror purchased from Bazaar's General Store can be traded in for Barter's No. 6 Wrench. The Kongs can also purchase back the Mirror for ten Bear Coins.
Björn Björn resides in the world Razor Ridge of Donkey Kong Country 3. He operates a chairlifts service, alongside his brother Benny. However, his chairlifts are broken, but they can be fixed by him if the Kongs give him the No. 6 Wrench, obtained earlier by Barter. The fixed chairlifts, also used for free, allow the heroes to access the Banana Bird Cave Clifftop Cache present in the same world map.
Baffle Baffle lives in the world KAOS Kore of Donkey Kong Country 3. He is a huge fan of ciphers and deciphering. By giving him the Mirror, he is able to decipher a specific code and tell it the Kongs. This optional sidequest explains how to open the entrance of the Banana Bird Cave Sewer Stockpile located in the same world.
Bramble Bramble resides in his Bungalow located near the world Cotton-Top Cove in the overworld map of Donkey Kong Country 3. He is particularly interested in plant life. In the SFC/SNES version of the game, in order to get him to give his Banana Bird to the Kongs, they have to beat the boss Barbos of the world Razor Ridge in order for a Flupperius Petallus Pongus to grow outside of his hut. It can then be collected on the overworld map and can be traded in for a Banana Bird at Bramble's hut. However, in the GBA version of the same game, after the primates have received the Flupperius Petallus Pongus from Bachelor, they can exchange the item for a Rose from Bramble. In the same game version, by visiting Bramble's Bungalow after defeating the boss KAOS in the world Mekanos, the heroes will also earn a Banana Bird from the bear.
Bachelor Bachelor is only found in the GBA version of Donkey Kong Country 3. This Bear needs a Rose and a Box of Chocolates for his date. By visiting Bachelor Pad in the world Lake Orangatanga, the Kongs receive a Flupperius Petallus Pongus. This item can be traded with Bramble for a Rose. The Box of Chocolates can be purchased from Bazaar's General Store for twenty Bear Coins. After delivering both items to Bachelor, he will gift the primates with a Banana Bird.

Blizzard Blizzard, a talented hiker and mountain climber, can be found in his Basecamp on the world K3 of Donkey Kong Country 3. His hut is accessed by going north of the stage Lemguin Lunge in the same world. Blizzard states that he did not want to miss out on Blue's birthday, but could not reach him due to being snow-trapped. Blizzard then asks the heroes to deliver his Present to Blue. The Present turns out to be a Bowling Ball.
Blue Blue is a lonely bear who spends his time in a Beach Hut in the world Cotton-Top Cove of Donkey Kong Country 3. He is sad that no one came to his party and that everyone forgot his birthday. Once the Present from Blizzard is received and unwrapped, Blue gives the present back to the Kongs, stating he does not need it. The present was a Bowling Ball.
Bazooka Bazooka is an old war veteran that lives in the world Mekanos of Donkey Kong Country 3. He is unhappy that his cannon dubbed "Bessie" cannot fire anymore due to the lack of ammo. Giving him the Bowling Ball, which Blizzard gave to Blue as a Present, will result in him using it as ammo and firing Bessie. The cannon can then be used to reach the Banana Bird Cave Sky High Secret in the same world map. It is possible for the player to use the cannon multiple times.

Standalone[]

Brother Bear Function
Brash Brash lives in the world Kremwood Forest of Donkey Kong Country 3 and does not sell or give any special items. However, the Kongs need to beat his time on the stage Riverside Race of the same world. By doing so and returning to his hut, he bangs his paws on the table out of frustration. This causes a large tree branch to fall into the river and create a path for the primates to access the secret Banana Bird Cave Arich's Hoard in Kremwood Forest.
Blunder Blunder lives west of Kremwood Forest in the overworld map of Donkey Kong Country 3. He is not involved in any sidequests at all. Blunder occasionally drops hints on how to access the lost world of the game.
Benny Benny lives in the world Razor Ridge of Donkey Kong Country 3. He operates the chairlifts there, alongside his brother Björn. However, unlike his brother, he does not have any problem the Kongs can help him with and he does not play a role in the Brothers Bear sidequests. Benny allows the primates to ride on his chairlifts for free, and the service is only way to move between the two parts of the Razor Ridge world map.
Boomer Boomer is a member of the Brothers Bear living in the lost world Krematoa of Donkey Kong Country 3. By paying him a total of eighty-five Bonus Coins, he explodes obstacles blocking off the path to the stages of the same world map. The five Cogs, obtained at the end of each regular stage of the same world, must be placed on a machine inside Boomer's Bomb Shelter. It allows the primates to reach the boss stage Knautilus of Krematoa.
Bear Bear only appears in the game Donkey Kong Land III and as the only representative of the Brothers Bear. One of his Sheepy Shops is located in each world map of the game. The player can expend two Bear Coins for random tips about a level in the same world. By paying five Bear Coins, Bear's teleport allows the player to access the overworld map without requiring to defeat the boss of the current world. If the player has collected certain amount of Bonus Coins, they can play a memory minigame for free, where they must match pairs of cards. During the minigame, ten pairs of cards must be matched within a certain time limit. By clearing the minigame in each location, the player earns a Banana Bunch, an Extra Life Balloon, a Bear Coin, a DK Coin and a Stop Watch.

Trivia[]

  • It can be speculated that Banjo, bear character first appearing in the game Diddy Kong Racing for Nintendo 64, is related to the Brothers Bear.
  • Barnacle makes a cameo appearance in the game Donkey Konga for Nintendo GameCube. Here, he sports an appearance similar to the one seen in the SFC/SNES version of the game Donkey Kong Country 3.
