Barter is one of the Brothers Bear that appeared in the game Donkey Kong Country 3. He operates a Swap Shop near the world K3 in the overworld map of the Northern Kremisphere.

History

In the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of Donkey Kong Country 3, Barter's Swap Shop becomes accessible after the Kongs have cleared the world K3. However, in the Game Boy Advance of the same game, the same location is already accessible by the player unlocking the Turbo Ski in the Funky's Rentals. By purchasing the Mirror from the Bazaar's General Store and visiting the Swap Shop, Barter will offer the option of exchanging the item for his No. 6 Wrench. The wrench is required for fixing Björn's Chairlifts service in the world Razor Ridge in order to gain access to the Banana Bird Cave Clifftop Cache.

Initially, Barter possesses an unruly appearance, with messy clothers, in the SNES version of the game. During later visits of the Swap Shop after receiving the Mirror, the bear will display a glommed appearance. The same does not happen in the GBA version of Donkey Kong Country 3. Optionally, the player can to revisit Barter later and reacquire the Mirror by expending ten Bear Coins for it. After that, in the SNES game version, the bear will return to his previous messy appearance.

Physical Appearance

In the SNES version of Donkey Kong Country 3, Barter appears to have a white suit with a green tie. However, in the official artworks, the suit and the tie are pink and white, respectively. He has brown fur, and a beige mouth. His nose is black, like his hat, pants, boots and belt. Barter has four fingers, and has a silver strap on his belt. His eyes are brown, and has a relaxed expression with his beige eyelids. Barter also has a small mustache, which appears groomed when he has the Mirror, and untidy of not.

In the GBA version of the same game, Barter wears a white vest with some vertical blue stripes on it, a red hat, red pants, and a black belt. Similar to the other Brothers Bear in this game version, he now resembles a brown grizzly bear sporting a large figure. And besides his clothes, Barter also lacks any distinctive facial features when compared to his brothers.
