Barrel Shield Bust-Up (タルのシールド, Taru no Shirīdo in Japan) is the first stage of Kremwood Forest world and seventh stage overall in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of the game Donkey Kong Country 3, as well as the fourth stage of the same world and the tenth stage overall in the Game Boy Advance version of the same game, and the stage is swapped with Springin' Spiders in this version. In the SNES game version, it is preceded by Belcha's Barn and followed by Riverside Race. In the GBA game version, it is preceded by Squeals on Wheels and followed by Bobbing Barrel Brawl.

Overview

This stage features Minkeys who will throw acorns at the Kongs. There are however, Barrel Shields in the form of barrels halved lengthwise to avoid the nuts as the player ascends the trees. Most of the stage is set inside hollow trees.

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: Floating left of the first vertical rope.
  • O: After encountering a group of three Minkeys, the letter "O" is placed on the vertical rope.
  • N: The letter "N" is located left to a vertical rope, shortly before the second DK Barrel after the Star Barrel.
  • G: When encountering the only Nid in the stage, the primates must jump on it. Above the Nid, they can then reach the letter "G".

Bonus Areas

  • Find the Coin!: When the Kongs encounter a lone TNT Barrel, they must break open the trunk to the left of it by throwing the TNT Barrel against it. There, they can find the first Bonus Barrel. The objective of the Bonus Room is to climb a vertical rope, which is guarded by numerous Minkeys, until they find a platform to the right of the tree, which they will have to jump off and land on the Bonus Coin, within fifteen seconds.
  • Grab 15 Bananas!/Grab 10 Bananas!: To find the path leading to the second Bonus Barrel, the primates must break open the wall left of the last TNT Barrel in the level, which is located shortly before the Stage Flag. Then, they must climb up the tree by jumping on several twigs and branches. Lastly, Dixie Kong must perform her Helicopter Spin move and fly all the way to the left side, through several holes in the two trees, to land in the Bonus Barrel. Above that same platform is a DK Barrel. Inside the Bonus Room, the heroes must collect fifteen Green Bananas within thirty-five seconds in the SNES version or ten bananas within thirty seconds in the GBA version on a vertical rope. While collecting the Green Bananas, the Kongs must avoid acorns thrown at them by a few Minkeys.

DK Coin

Just after the letter "N" and outside the hollow trees, Kiddy Kong must use the team-up move to throw Dixie on an upper branch. There, they can find a small place inside the hollow tree with a Koin to the right of them and a Steel Keg nearby it. In the GBA version, the only way to reach the Koin is to use a TNT Barrel above to break the tree trunk next to enemy.

Warp Barrel

The Warp Barrel can be found after the letter "O". After passing two Green Buzzes, the heroes must drop into a hole in the right tree and fall into the left corner of the pit below.
