Banana Juice is an equippable item that adds some invincibility for the Kongs' health during a single level. The item first appears in the games Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and later in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
Overview[]
The Banana Juice can only be purchased from the Cranky Kong's Shop for twenty Banana Coins in Donkey Kong Country Returns, ten coins in the Original Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, or seven coins in the New Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. After it is obtained, the item can be equipped via the Inventory menu by the player after they selecting a level. By using the Banana Juice during a level, Donkey and Diddy Kong will become golden, release some glowing effects and receive invincibility worth of ten extra hits of damage in Donkey Kong Country Returns and the Original Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, or five hits in the New Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. The effects of the item will last for the duration of the current level, but they will wear off instantly if the heroes fall into pits in both games, except in the New Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, where they are kept even if the primates are defeated while riding mine carts or Rocket Barrels. Under the influence of the Banana Juice, the usual poses of the Kongs when taking damage will also change for them resisting the harm. And after taking five hits of damage in Donkey Kong Country Returns and the Original Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, or three hits in the New Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, the primates will start to blink between their golden and regular forms.
Two or more Banana Juices can be equipped in the same level during the multiplayer mode of both games, including the New Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D in single player. Also in the New Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, any unused Banana Juices equipped during a level are not wasted, and they return to the Inventory menu after the Kongs leaving the same level. In the multiplayer mode, if the character of one player has the item equipped at least, and Diddy Kong, controlled by the second player, mounts on the Donkey Kong's back, both primates will share the effects of the Banana Juice while they are together. The item does not affect the durability of mine carts and Rocket Barrels. And the Banana Juice cannot be used in the Time Attack mode or Mirror Mode of both games.
In the game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, the Banana Juice reappears and it can only be purchased from the Funky Kong's Fly 'N' Buy shop for fifteen Banana Coins. The drink is still equipped in similar way to the previous games by selecting it in the Inventory menu before a level, however it now works in a different way. By having the Banana Juice equipped inside a level, the item will only activate after the Kongs taking any damage once, except by running out of air underwater. They will turn golden immediately and the invincibility effect will last for about twenty seconds. The same invincibility does not make the primates immune to fall into pits or run out of air inside water. In the single player or multiplayer mode, each player can equip until three Banana Juices per level, and the item effects are still shared when the second player's Kong is mounted on the Donkey Kong's back. It has not effect while riding mine carts or Rocket Barrels. And the Banana Juice cannot be equipped during the Time Attack mode or Hard Mode of the game.
