Awks are blue flightless birds appearing in the games Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. They are enemies that just walk forward slowly, but they can peck the Kongs upon contact.
Overview[]
Awks are usually found in groups of three, and they are common enemies in the Jungle world levels of the Donkey Kong Island. Awks are some of the most basic enemies in both games, and all they do is to walk back and forward over single platforms at a slow pace. These birds also appear to be very peaceful, despite them being enemies. However, Awks will easily peck and harm the primates upon contact. In order to Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong to defeat Awks, they can either do simple jump or roll attacks into these foes. A barrel throw can also defeat the Awks. Additionally, they are one of the few enemy types in both games that can be defeated by Diddy using his Peanut Popguns to shoot peanuts at them. Awks are also susceptible to be stunned temporarily by the ground-pound move.
In both games, Awks have enemy variants called Rawks which appear much later in the Ruins and Golden Temple. They are similar birds, but Rawks are covered by red/orange feathers, and they will move faster soon after noticing the heroes.
Physical Appearance[]
Awks appear to be birds with blue/green feathers with a couple of red feathers underneath. They also possess orange beaks themselves.
Trivia[]
- Though not confirmed in the games Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, it's possible that Awks have been controlled by the Tiki Tak Tribe to attack the Kongs.
- Awks are similar to Gnawties, beaver enemies from the games Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land, with both enemy types being very common and capable of just walking forward in their respective games.
- Awks and Rawks are functionally similar to Dozies and Sour Dodos, respectively, both dodo enemies from the game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
